Construction of the Ice Arena in Nizhny Novgorod was completed

The Ice Arena in Nizhny Novgorod has received its commissioning permit. The construction was carried out under a concession model, with the relevant agreement signed between the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region and Ice Palace LLC (a subsidiary of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Development Corporation).

Gleb Nikitin, Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, noted that the new sports facility will become not only a new home for the Torpedo Hockey Club but also an attraction point for residents and visitors of the city.

“The new ice arena is one of the largest sports facilities in the country. With the completion of this project, a major international‑level sports cluster has been formed in the capital of our region. The Ice Arena on Strelka is a modern sports complex that our hockey club and thousands of fans have been waiting for. In addition to hockey, the venue can also be used for concerts and other mass events. In the near future, the residents and visitors of Nizhny Novgorod will be able to fully appreciate our new arena,” Gleb Nikitin emphasized.

The Ice Arena comprises a main arena with a seating capacity of 12,000 and two training rinks with a capacity of 250 each. One of the training arenas can be used for sledge hockey competitions and will be the first facility of this level in the country.

The adjacent territory has been paved with cobblestone, outdoor lighting poles have been installed, and flower beds and green zones have been arranged. In addition, a 700‑space car park has been provided.

“Constructing a sports facility of this scale is a truly significant challenge. More than 2,500 people were involved in the construction of the facility. It is a technically complex project, but it is now complete, and I am confident it will bring joy to many generations of Nizhny Novgorod residents,” said Igor Ishchenko, Director General of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Development Corporation.

It is worth recalling that the project to create the Ice Arena on Strelka in Nizhny Novgorod was approved at the federal level. During the CIPR‑2022 exhibition, Gleb Nikitin presented a model of the future arena to Mikhail Mishustin, Chairman of the Government of Russia.

The Ice Arena has already received awards at both federal and regional levels. In 2023, the project was recognized as the best PPP-project in the sports sector within the Rosinfra Infrastructure Awards. In 2023 and 2024, it became a laureate of the Vedomosti. Impulse Award. In 2026, the facility was recognized within the framework of the 13th annual “Sports Infrastructure” Award and also won the nomination “Construction of Sports and Entertainment Facilities” at the “Leader of Construction of the Nizhny Novgorod Region‑2026” competition.
