- The operation of the 112 service, traffic video recording systems and video surveillance, road traffic monitoring, weight control and forest fire monitoring are carried out using the Safe City hardware and software system
- The development of the regional navigation and information system includes the management of passenger transportation, school buses and utility vehicles

Folk arts and crafts
The Nizhny Novgorod Region left a strong imprint in the history of traditional Russian arts

Golden Khokhloma is one of the oldest original Russian folk crafts, which for centuries has shaped the way of life of entire generations and is an integral part of the Russian culture. A Khokhloma feature is the manufacture of gilded wooden dishes without the use of precious metals and a peculiar plant and grass painting. The symbol of Khokhloma painting is a fiery firebird decorated with bright flowers.

Kazakovskaya filigree is one of the oldest types of artistic metal working – “skan” (from old Russian “to twist”) or filigree, as this kind of jewelry technique is also called. Kazakovskoe Enterprise of Art Products, CJSC, produces a wide range of art products: decorative vases and bowls, music boxes, cup holders, vases, candy bowls, women's jewelry, teaspoons, cups, medals, badges, orders and insignia for the Russian army.

Gorodets golden embroidery is one of the oldest and most unique types of highly artistic folk arts in Russia. Embroidery, clothes and scarves richly decorated with gold were mandatory clothing items of wealthy ladies of merchant cities of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, including the city of Gorodets. A sparkling pattern adorned women’s festive clothing, which was the pride of the family, it was carefully stored and passed from mother to daughter as a reliable, never depreciating capital.

Russian lacework appeared in the 17th century. It not only preserved and developed the best traditions of craftswomen of European countries, but also became a genuine national artistic phenomenon, the independence of which is expressed in the richness of color, a variety of techniques and the graphic nature of the ornament. One of the famous lace centers in the 18th - 19th centuries was an ancient city on the Volga – Balakhna.

Pottery in Bogorodsk has existed since the foundation of the village of Bogorodskoye in 1570. The heyday of pottery occurred at the end of the 19th, beginning of the 20th centuries, when the products of Bogorodsk craftsmen became known to most of Russia. Bogorodsk potters made a wide variety of pottery for all occasions: pots, bowls, milk jars, ewers, trays, milk buckets, field buckets, earthenware pots, jars, Easter plates, jelly cups and even samovars. Another center of pottery and art ceramics is the city of Balakhna. Here people used the old technique of oxygen-free wood burning.

Leatherworking in the Nizhny Novgorod governorate began to develop in the second half of the 17th century and spread to many cities. Its development was contributed by the availability of local material: oak and potash lime. The production was quite profitable. People made leather and consumer articles of it using various kinds of finishes.

One of the symbols of Russia is the traditional Russian nesting doll – a bright elegant beauty with pink cheeks and scarlet roses on her apron. The ancient folk craft of making wooden toys with paintings originated in the rich in talents Nizhny Novgorod land at the beginning of the 20th century.

Glass-blowing of Christmas tree decorations appeared in Nizhny Novgorod in the 60s of the last century. Glassblowers then worked in the old fashioned way and used simple kerosene burners for blowing. Toys were blown out using glass tubes. The factory of glass Christmas-tree decorations “Ariel” continues the traditions of the production of Christmas-tree decorations made of glass, which were laid down in 1936 in Gorky, and currently has the status of an enterprise of folk art crafts of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

In the Nizhny Novgorod Region, there were several centers for the production of axe-chip toys. The earliest of them is Chkalovsky. Early toys of the end of the 18th – beginning of the 19th centuries include push-wheels, propellers, spinners, blacksmiths on movable slats.
